Gloucester Concert Saturday 15th June
The Cathedral has a history dating back to 1089 but its major period of development was during the Reign of Henry VIII in the 1500’s and has had several upgrades and restorations since as you might imagine.
Its certainly seems very well kept these days! The staff there are also very welcoming and there are tours throughout the day to the tower and the crypt. For singing the space is not overwhelming and the acoustics are amazing.
There is also a very good cafe serving meals and snacks and plenty of toilets-near the cafe. The town of Gloucester is relatively compact and in June should provide a great place to explore.
The area around the docks and canal has been restored and houses many pubs and chain restaurants as well as a designer factory outlet mall. There are also boat trips on offer there.
For that reason we plan to depart from Gloucester at 5.00 pm to allow time to explore after the concert.
1.Departures from Chesham Broadway on Motts Coaches at 7.30. Amersham Free Church 7.50 and Clare Park at 8.05.
Nearer the date we will need to know your boarding intentions and confirm the parking arrangements in Clare Park.
2.Arrive at the Cathedral around 11.00am with a comfort stop en route to be agreed with the Driver. (the coach does have a toilet)
3.On arrival we have the use of the Parliament Room above the Monks Kitchen–(cafe/toilets)–for changing or practice.
4.We will sing in the Nave –and have generously been given 11.30 to 12.15 for practice. We also have the use of the grand piano.
5.There is a communion service and prayers in the Cathedral at 12.30
6.Our concert will commence at 1.00 pm for around 45 mins. We will send a copy of our programme to the Cathedral around 6 weeks ahead of the concert for their approval.
7.We will provide our own printed programmes and there will be a retiring collection for the Cathedral at their discretion. The cathedral will also include our concert in their “Whats On” brochure and web site.
Given that this is a Saturday in summer we are hoping for a good sized audience.
8.After the concert we will have free time to explore the town and hopefully embrace the good June weather. You will need to make your own arrangements for food and refreshments.
9.We will depart from Gloucester at 5.00 pm and travel directly back to Amersham/ Chesham arriving around 7.30pm/8.00pm home.
I do hope that this provides all or most of the information that you require. I’m sure that those choir members that have been on visits before will recognise the format.
Having already been to this Cathedral I’m really looking forward to the visit and the opportunity to sing in such an up lifting location.
