2018 Autumn Letter

25th year programme

The choir began its 25th year last Friday, with the annual dinner with wives/ partners and long standing supporters, at Chartridge Golf Club. We were joined by special guests, Helen Cooke, accompanist from the very start of the Choir in 1993 until 1999, and again from 2007 until 2013; her husband, David Cooke, who took up the baton when Sheila felt that family and work commitments prompted her to reduce her involvement with the choir, and Joan Thackray, accompanist 1999 until 2007.

With Becky Izard taking on the accompanist (and soloist) roles in 2013, the choir has been fortunate to have had such a dedicated team to lead them during their 25 years.

The first concert is on October 20th    at the  Amersham Free Church on Woodside Road, starting at 7.30 . The choir will be singing ‘Our All Time Favourites’ – a programme selected by members of the choir with songs they have enjoyed singing over the past 25 years. We will be joined by 3 wonderful young solo pianists- all from the same family!

Many of you will recall the marvelous playing of Firoze and Yazdi Madon at last year’s autumn concert. This year they are joined by their equally gifted sister – don’t miss the opportunity to appreciate some very special talents, with impressive CVs:

Roseanne Madon received her early education at Monks Risborough CE Primary School and Aylesbury High School. In 2014 she gained a place at the Purcell School for Young Musicians to study piano and composition. She is currently a Sixth Former at the school and has recently completed the Gold Arts Award and taken her dip ABRSM (performance diploma) in piano.

Over the years she has regularly taken part in music festivals and has also been fortunate enough to perform in such venues as the Fazioli Concert Hall in Italy and the Ledger Recital Room at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Besides music, she has a longstanding interest in dance. She attended Tring Park School for the Performing Arts as an Associate, studying ballet, modern and tap. She presently learns ballet at Baylins Ballet Barn in Beaconsfield and has taken two of the vocational exams. Her highlights have been dancing with the English Youth Ballet in their productions of The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake and taking part in a piano improvisation for dance masterclass with the Central School of Ballet.

Yazdi  Madon attended Monks Risborough Primary School and took part in many community and church events as a soloist, a member of an instrumental ensemble and choral member. In 2017 he was given the opportunity to sing in the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena and selected to play at the Rotary International Young Musician Competition. He was also invited to perform at Amersham Free Church and the United Reformed Church in Marlow.

Following success in the ABRSM Grade 8 piano exam he joined the Purcell School for Young Musicians in September 2017, where he studies piano and cello. During the last year at the school he has been chosen to play at both internal and external concerts, as well as participate in a masterclass with a visiting concert pianist.

Firoze  Madon showed an early interest in music and enjoyed playing a variety of instruments in school concerts and music festivals. He has been a student at the Purcell School for Young Musicians since 2014, where he studies piano, violin and composition.

During the last four years Firoze has extended his repertoire and performed at many school, local and charitable concerts. He was a soloist at the Young International Piano Festival in Deruta, Italy in 2016 and at Wolfson College, Oxford in 2017 and 2018. He also performed at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland earlier this year and participated in the Commonwealth Resounds concert at St James’s Church, Piccadilly.
